Busy Schedule? We’ve Got a Class for You!

Busy Schedule?  We’ve Got a Class for You!Healthy living through physical activity is central to the Y’s cause.  The YMCA’s Group Exercise programs are fun and provide interactive ways to engage individuals in a supportive group setting, enhancing social bonds and strengthening community.

Group exercise helps create accountability, encourages new friendships, motivates, and enables growth in the YMCA family.  Group exercise classes are a great way to become involved and have fun exercising with others!  In fact, the number one reason people stick with a workout routine is due to accountability with another person.  Best of all, both men and women enjoy almost every class opportunity, making it truly open and welcoming to every person.

The Kingsport Y offers many group classes (117 per week, to be exact) geared for different activities, abilities, times and ages.  With classes ranging from 30 minutes in length to 1 hour, the Y is proud to provide various types of classes to fit different lifestyles and schedules. You have multiple chances 7 days per week, starting as early as 5:30a or as late as 7:30p. Whether you’re a beginner, an avid athlete, or just new to classes, the Y has an option for you.

From cycling to toning classes, interval or lite, the Y is confident you can find a fit.  If you’re still unsure of the best place to start, contact Tyler Ramey, our Group Ex Director (tramey@ymcakpt.org) to arrange a time when he can give you a tour of the group exercise studios, give you a chance to discuss your goals and ask questions, and receive some suggestions for the best classes to fit your busy lifestyle.

The Y also strives to provide unusual opportunities for group classes.  In addition to the somewhat standard interval, cycling, yoga, pilates, hip hop, barre, step, Zumba®, and strength classes, you have the chance to try Line Dancing, Tai Chi, PiYo, Sports Conditioning, Restorative Yoga or POUND!, which utilizes drumsticks with movement! Watch the monthly schedule for possible changes and new opportunities.

• Participants feel more comfortable to try new approaches to overall wellness, realizing all levels of ability are welcomed and instructed.
• Connections are made between instructors and group exercise participants as individuals as well as part of a larger group, and these connections lay the foundation for establishing meaningful communities of support.

• Working in small and large groups enhances connection between adults and increases a sense of belonging.
