Scar (skahr)
Noun
1.    A mark left by a healed wound, sore or burn
2.    A blemish remaining as a trace of or resulting from injury or use

Some are noticeable, some not so much, but we know they are there.  And while most of us would like to rid ourselves of these blemishes, stretch marks, or surgical scarring, there hasn’t been a truly convenient or easily affordable treatment option.  Until now.

What is Collagen Induction Therapy?
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), a medical procedure that involves puncturing the skin with tiny sterile needles has long been used for transdermal drug delivery, vaccinations, etc.  Medical “micro needling” or “skin needling” is also an alternative to more invasive procedures like laser resurfacing and chemical peels.

Skin needling is a non-ablative treatment in that it does not remove the top layer of skin as is the case with laser resurfacing.  There is considerably less down time with essentially the same result and is a fraction of the cost of the leading alternatives.  Unlike ablative procedures used mainly for facial skin, micro-needling can also be used on other parts of the body – neck, décolleté, arms, legs and torso.
Research has shown that skin needling increases the remolding of the treated area by creating microscopic channels in the skin thereby causing the release of the body’s natural growth factors, promoting new collagen – a part of the connective tissue in the skin that helps in firmness, suppleness and continuous renewal of skin cells.  Collagen is crucial for skin elasticity.  As we age, collagen production begins to slow and the cell structure weakens.  The skin gets thinner, sags and wrinkles  appear.  Wrinkling in the skin caused by aging, sun damage, smoking and poor hydration can also be treated with Collagen Induction Therapy.

Skin needling stimulates the body’s natural solution to generate new collagen growth and activate the growth hormone steps to generate elastin and smoother, healthy colored skin.

Individual results vary of course, and multiple treatments may be required depending on the area of skin and condition being treated.  Recovery following treatment is determined by the area as well.  The skin may appear to be pink or red, like a sunburn.  There may be the discomfort of tightness and itching for a short time.  Side effects are minimal and may include flaking or dryness.  Infection is extremely rare.
