Growing, Changing, & Living Better: Gearing Up For a Fabulous Fall

Growing, Changing, & Living BetterThe YMCA is helping build a stronger Kingsport, providing safe and healthy activity opportunities for ages 6 weeks to 106. The Y’s focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, results in an environment that encourages all involved to learn and grow. This fall, we’re continuing some of our favorite traditions, as well as adding some new chances to benefit from the Y!

Youth Development: Sometimes it’s important to engage kids in enrichment activities and clubs, but also provide opportunities to have fun and be social. Kids Night Out has continued to be a hit with ages 3-5th grade with monthly themes, dinner, games, and sometimes crafts on the 2nd Saturday of the month, September-April. HYPE Nights give 6th-8th graders the opportunity to have a monthly chance to hang out with kids their age, playing age appropriate games and hanging out in the Intergenerational Lounge at the Y. We also can’t forget Preschool Clubs for ages 3-5, which are offered seasonally, for hands-on learning, gross motor play, sensory learning and themed crafts, snacks and games!

Did you know the Y hosts Afterschool programs in 11 different schools, 2 summer day Camps (one for teens and one for elementary students), and offers seasonal activities for kids with special needs?  Go A.P.E. (Adaptive Physical Exercise) is usually offered for at least one session each in the fall and spring and gives kids with special needs a chance to be physically active, do crafts together, go swimming and even try some different sports on Saturday afternoons (siblings welcome, too!). When school is closed for breaks or in-service days, your kids can come to School’s Out days at the YMCA to keep their bodies and minds energetic while you’re at work. Finally, our fall offerings wouldn’t be complete without the mention of the Homeschool P.E. program. Successful the past two years, it’s back for another round, serving the homeschool families of our community.

Healthy Living: In an effort to make you feel comfortable in a regular exercise routine, our Wellness Orientation gives you an introduction to everything available to start or continue your healthy lifestyle. This could turn into multiple appointments, depending on your needs, but you will certainly be introduced to MobileFiT®. The accompanying MobileFiT® app is wonderful and helps you plan and track your workouts, gives you incentives, and is FREE! If you want more concentrated coaching, try our Personal Training program, which can be done 1-on-1, with a partner, or in a trio plus a trainer. If small groups are your style, give our Small Group Training a shot. A special wellness event, The Combine, will be August 26th, so don’t miss it!

If you love high energy, group opportunities, the YMCA’s Group Exercise classes are the way to go. With over 105 classes per week, you’re sure to find your fit. You can expect specialty classes like Turkey Day Detox and the Last Chance workout around the holidays as well.

Social Responsibility: The Volunteer program is alive and well, with various projects, times and age limits to fit your desires to join forces with other Y ambassadors to give back both in and outside the walls of the YMCA. The kids in our Afterschool and Camps also volunteer and participate in community service projects year-round.

The Y is so much more than a gym, but a community seeking to meet the needs of so many in the Kingsport area through all of its programs—to provide a safe, welcoming environment to help YOU live better.  The Y is here for you and we’d love you to be part of the family! Please come visit us in person or on our website to learn more about these fun new opportunities starting back up this fall.
