Subculture Urban Cuisine and Cafe

Restaurant Review: Christiana Muir

Subculture Urban Cuisine and CafeBargain priced food in a small, intimate atmosphere charmed our restaurant reviewer. The tasty and healthy meal for two came in at under $28!

On the corner of Nolensville Road and Old Hickory Blvd. in southeast Nashville is a new hole-in-the-wall eatery called Subculture Urban Cuisine and Cafe. Founded in 2016, this restaurant offers bold and delicious sandwiches, burgers, salads and sides at a small price.

Subculture’s decor is rustic and industrial. Upon entering, you will find a small intimate room with a few wooden tables and benches and a picnic table outside. The focal point of the room is a pallet bar with a concrete top, metal piping and galvanized metal stools where you can order your meal as well as a selection of beers on tap.

There is limited seating, however, this is part of the charm. Service is friendly and quick and the food is delicious. Entrees range from $7.50 – $11. On the menu, you will find bold flavors and surprising mixes in most foods with medium-sized portions.

Favorites include:
• Butternut Squash Salad ($7.50): pork/chicken, roasted butternut, kale, crumbled cotija cheese and roasted red pepper
• Churrasco Sandwich ($11): marinated beef/grilled chicken, fried egg, tomato, chimichurri, aioli and avocado
• Pork Belly Ramen ($9): pork belly, mushroom, soft boiled egg, jalapenos and sambal.

Other items on the menu include various hot chicken dishes, burgers and sandwiches. All breads are homemade and all food is cooked and served fresh. Along with your entree, you can order sides for $1.50 – $4.75 including asian slaw, quinoa salad and french fries. Make sure to head over to Subculture in Southeast Nashville for a taste of its urban cuisine. Subculture also offers Saturday brunch, taco Tuesdays, and keep an eye out for their food truck around town.
